There have been in my many years on this earth, only a few things, places, or people that have truly awed me. I can however, name the places that struck me deeply and left such an emotional connection with me, that even a brain tumor could not wipe the strength of the moment from my memory.
The places?
The USS Arizona Memorial
The Gettysburg Battlefield
The Vietnam Memorial
I feel honored that the men and women of the armed forces gave their lives for this country to go on in it's pursuit of whatever the ideal of "life liberty and the" happiness that it deemed appropriate at the moment!
As we go to our barbeques, picnic, beach parties or hanging around or even work today, I'll just leave you with this last bit:
"that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government : of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
