Go over to Seth's The Altered Page right away. NOW! He is doing the most marvelous series on artists and their thoughts on being artists. It is not to be missed. What, you're still here? Go now, I'll wait. Better yet, I'll go eat lunch and you go read great stuff. I already did this morning. And it's a series, so Laura Pacehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10161411285377899594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4201471161302926681.post-84744034313232427382008-08-20T09:35:00.001-07:002008-08-20T09:35:10.682-07:00So here's a fun thing to doYou start with a picture with lots of people in it then substitute your face in place of all theirs! What fun this is. All it takes is a little use of the transformation tool in Photoshop or something comparable in other photo editing programs, and 1 2 3 you're good to go! This picture was originally a Freebie from Suzan at Thrifty Collage Artist. She has been really generous to give us some Laura Pacehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10161411285377899594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4201471161302926681.post-77084429899085545922008-08-19T08:19:00.001-07:002008-08-19T08:19:40.993-07:00Purple Man collageSo there I was, riding the Innertube like I do everyday. When along the shore what do I spy, but a wonderful freebie from Thrifty Collage Artist, Suzan. I immediately felt "drawn" to this guy. So I took him under my pen, digital that is, and treated him to some magic in Twisted Brush Studio Pro. Then a few more spells in Photoshop & off to the Epson printer & up to the studio for some actual Laura Pacehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10161411285377899594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4201471161302926681.post-27208895243255912562008-08-19T07:26:00.001-07:002008-08-19T07:26:30.681-07:00Art journaling funSo in amongst teeth cleaning at the dentist (YUCK) and swimming (Yippee) and playing with my cats and hoping for rain, I have been doing amongst other arty stuff, some art journal pages. Here are a couple for your amusement. I had some paint left over from a another project and decided to practice loosening my stranglehold on the paint brush. These two pages are the result. A couple of days Laura Pacehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10161411285377899594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4201471161302926681.post-46608561911301651812008-08-15T14:18:00.001-07:002008-08-15T14:18:48.713-07:00Happy Birthday to a wonderful WomanThat would be my daughter, the art teacher! She is a beautiful talented person. She is respected in her work & loved by her friends & family. She is lovely inside & out. A very happy birthday to her & many, many more to come. Then I had a "great" idea: So I did this in my regular art journal.I was partially inspired by Suzan at Thrifty Collage Artist. This morning I read her tutorial, & she mentioned something about green & pink & I remembered I had just bought a new pink & orange to go with my other colors. It was black & white. I worked a little magic & dedusted & descratched it & added some color. I added NO beauty...that's all her own! Life gets in the way sometimes, ya know. There's doctors appointments (which seem to take forever) MRI's, and always the pool now that it's warm. And a day spent trudging along the Highway 127 Yard Sale. And a little bit of other stuff happening in there too. That was too much fun & laughter. My face ached for hours after they left. Then yesterday, I met up in the Big City with my Darling Daughter Heather, & we did all the important stuff: 1. Jerry's Artarama...gotta love the Golden products. 2. Neato keano retro antique place that has mostly 40's through 70's stuff. 3.Then dinner Laura Pacehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10161411285377899594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4201471161302926681.post-75618405454385642432008-07-28T09:40:00.001-07:002008-07-28T09:40:31.809-07:00Back for a quick bitNot much to show, as I've been working on backgrounds in a new journal. That's almost done, maybe 4 more pages. I can show you the color palette I have been using: I decided I wanted a fresh look to the new journal as it is my birthday in a couple of days. I wanted to start off differently. Ya know how that goes. We got our water, electricity & phone fixed finally. I get antsy, when I think something doesn't look right. For a while now I thought the old heading was looking too heavy on the sides. So a little change was due. No...you can't have your 2 cents back! Oh, if anyone knows where my missing set of Paris pics are, will you please let me know. So I was working in the lab late, no, no no. I was sitting at the computer, sorting through photos. It was early Monday afternoon Then I heard it. The familiar whup whup whup of helicopter blades. Once again the local powers that be were spending our money to keep us safe from something. I know, I hear you... Finally she starts it. Sheesh, 14 years it a takes her. Yeah but about 9 or so of those years don't really count now do they! So I'm only a 5 year procrastinator technically! I have in my head what I want to do with the journal. Now it's just a matter of getting it done. Hey that sounds like most Laura Pacehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10161411285377899594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4201471161302926681.post-78610765779950514222008-07-05T11:40:00.001-07:002008-07-05T19:28:58.232-07:00A Blog Must Read Hurry Hurry! The Altered Page is a blog written by Seth Apter which I have been enjoying for a little while now. But today, I opened it up and found the most delicious, fantastic, wondrous travel journal I had seen, well ever. And I've seen many, having spent waaay too much time on this innertube riding along seeking out lovely and/or strange wonderment for my eyes to gobble. Seth had made a trip to Greece, Laura Pacehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10161411285377899594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4201471161302926681.post-25366654218201651322008-07-04T08:47:00.001-07:002008-07-04T08:47:06.770-07:00Happy Independence Day! Preparing for the switch to district water means much digging. Even Georgie, one of our cats who I think is part dog, gets into the act! I wasn't a ton of help... This is the FIRST time in TEN YEARS I've put foot to shovel. I was able to balance well enough on my rightLaura Pacehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10161411285377899594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4201471161302926681.post-16945965040596052332008-06-26T09:13:00.001-07:002008-06-26T09:20:47.145-07:00Sunny days It gettin' hot here now with no rain for days on end. Boy this is a familiar story... shades of last year. We are in the midst of switching over from well water to district water which takes a few weeks. And cost a few pennies what with electricians and plumbers & hook up fees. Oh well.. ahhh.. I truly did not mean that pun, it just slipped out. The first thing that came to mind was cropping it down to just this lady then printing it out. I used oil pastels to add punches of color back into the darkest shadows and into where some of the color was supposed to be and to me "seemed to be".Laura Pacehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10161411285377899594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4201471161302926681.post-87299525416989439762008-06-20T14:56:00.001-07:002008-06-20T14:56:31.006-07:00Happy Summer Solstice! Even though it's not hot this week where I am, I thought I'd give a nod to the heat of summer with my journal page. Quite a few years ago, I was lucky enough to go with my daughter to Europe on one of those "If it's Tuesday it must be Belgium" trips. And it just so happened we hit Paris on summer solstice. They had flowers hanging from all the bridges and musicians playing around the city.Laura Pacehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10161411285377899594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4201471161302926681.post-52350098485460112952008-06-16T18:06:00.001-07:002008-06-17T07:29:59.548-07:00Shall we get our gloves on?Millicent Regards the Sunrise is a digital collage I started last year then finished this afternoon. I guess my muse was waiting for all the right pictures to be taken before I was "allowed to finish"! I was feeling "oh so very" when I put it together. This started with a cutout of a thirties dress model that I scanned in, then added her flamingo head from a vintage book illustration. The Laura Pacehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10161411285377899594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4201471161302926681.post-989430367936652492008-06-16T16:01:00.000-07:002008-06-16T16:07:47.385-07:00can't get files uploadedWill try again later ... have a collage to share. Isn't that always the way? I guess when you have hundreds & hundreds, gosh, do I have to say thousands, of pics, you do tend to lose track.
